Diy ombre t shirt

Myself and the girls love H&M and we actually get so excited when we receive the magazine in the post! A few months ago when the latest magazine had come out, I saw this top, and immediately fell in love with it!

Lately I have seen the ombre trend everywhere, from hair to tshirts! I absolutely loved this t shirt and the colours used, so i thought I would attempt to make my own! Before I started I did a quick google search to see how easy it would be to dye clothes, and it really is so simple.

All you need is some dye, salt for the dye, hot water and a bucket!

I wasn't sure where in my small lame town I would be able to get clothing dye, but Wilkinsons stepped up! I wanted my ombre t shirt to be oversized, so I bought a mens x small for that whole 'boyfriend tee' look.

In order to create the ombre effect on a t shirt,  first you have to soak the t shirt in water and then wring it out, so the t shirt is kind of damp, otherwise the dye won't work effectively. Then all I did was heat some water up in a large bowl, enough to soak the t shirt in. Then I added the dye a little bit at a time.

So, as I wanted a light shade at the top and then gradually move down to a darker shade of blue, I first only put in a small quantity of dye, along with the salt.  I then dipped most of the t shirt, but I only dipped it once and took it straight out so I only got a light colour onto the t shirt.

I then added some more dye to the bowl, and again dipped the t shirt in it, but I dipped in less, and this time as I had put in more dye, the colour was darker, I did this again, adding more dye so the bottom would be the darkest. As I dipped the tshirt in I kind of swished it up and down in order to achieve a gradient look.

I then hung it out to dry and this was the finished result.

I then got my darling mother to roll up the sleeves and sew them in place. I also had some studs left over from ages ago when I was into studding every bit of clothing I had, so I added some studs near the neckline.

This was the finished result, I pretty pleased with the t shirt, but it didn't turn out as dark as I had hoped it would, but I guess that was because I used a cotton t shirt? As you can see from the picture below, I would wear the t shirt with skinny light washed jeans and a pair of converse. As the t shirt is over sized, I guess you could also wear it with leggings.

Lemon meringue cupcakes

I've been so lazy lately, and have not baked in forever, but this week I have gotten into baking again. I saw this recipe a while ago on This Morning, and I really wanted to make it. It was surprisingly really simple to make. And I would definitely recommend the recipe!

Ok, so they don't look entirely like Phil Vickery's, but I don't think this was bad for a first attempt! I definitely need to work on my piping skills though!

As I hadn't made these before, I had halved the quantities and managed to make about 10 using the small cases. Seeing as they were so simple and easy to make, next time I make them I think I will use the muffin cases, and hopefully I will have improved my piping skills by then!

Thanks to SH for the tips and tricks when I was making the meringue mixture!

Jazz up your cupcakes!

Being a passionate baker, I am still extremely lazy when it comes to icing with a piping bag.

As mentioned before, I always add my own twist to recipes, so have never followed a buttercream icing recipe to create the perfect consistency (out of my own laziness!)

Instead I prefer using a ganache recipe or add icing sugar to melted chocolate with a small amount of butter. I then use a palette knife to spread over the top.

Here I turned a simple vanilla cupcake into a KitKat chocolate treat!

Here I simply spread the chocolate icing mixture over the cupcake, finely grated some plain chocolate. For a final addition I broke a few KitKats' in half for a final garnish!!

For the vanilla cupcake use the following Nigella recipe:

  • 125 grams self-raising flour
  • 125 grams caster sugar
  • 125 grams soft unsalted butter
  • large eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • tablespoons milk

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C and line the tin with the muffin cases.
  2. It couldn't be simpler to make cup cakes: just put all the ingredients except for the milk in the processor and then blitz till smooth.
  3. Pulse while adding milk, to make for a soft, dropping consistency, down the funnel. Or using a bowl and wooden spoon, cream the butter and sugar, beat in the eggs one at a time with a little of the flour.
  4. Then add the vanilla extract and fold in the rest of the flour, adding the milk to get the dropping consistency as before.
  5. I know it looks as if you'll never make this scant mixture fit 12 bun cases, but you will. I promise you this mixture is exactly right to make the 12 cup cakes, so just spoon and scrape the stuff in, trying to fill each case equally, judging by eye only of course.
  6. Put in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cup cakes are cooked and golden on top. As soon as bearable, take the cup cakes in their cases out of the tin and let cool, right way up, on a wire rack.
  7. Once they're cool, make up a big, uncoloured batch of royal icing, and then remove a few spoonfuls at a time to small bowls.
  8. Using a bamboo skewer, add small dots of colours from the paste-tubs, stirring with a teaspoon and then adding more colouring, very slowly, very cautiously (pastel works best here, whatever your everyday aesthetic) until you get the colour you want.
  9. Use teaspoons to coat the cupcakes with icing and leave each a moment to dry only slightly, on the surface, before sticking on a rose, daisy or whole stash of decorations

Hello Flawless!

Hello Flawless!

Why is it extremely difficult to find a face powder which doesn't look cheap and tacky!

It seems the saying 'You pay for what you get' applies here very well. For me, Benefit had the answer in their Hello Flawless custom powder cover up.

I prefer to have a slight tanned complexion, so I use the colour 'I'm cute as a bunny...Honey'. It's important to make sure the shade you use is not too light or too dark, the best way to know which colour will suit you is not by applying it to your hand; its just before your chin and jawline.

Priced at £24.50 purchased from Debenhams. I am now on my second purchase of Hello Flawless and it does last ages. (you can tell how much I use mine from the picture above!)

It comes along with a sponge - best to use when covering a blemish or spot. I personally do not use the brush supplied, this is for a quick coat to set your foundation.

I use a bigger powdering brush to sweep over the face after I've applied my foundation.

I touch up my makeup with the powder halfway through the day, and it does what it says on the tin, my skin looks flawless with out looking too dry.

I hope this review helped More updates on what make up and beauty products we recommend coming soon!

A slice of heavenly goodness!

So I'm a bit of a baker, and quite a good one to :)

It's been a while but I got the good old sandwich tins and the Hummingbird bakery, Cake Days book out!

I  picked the Sweet & Salty Chocolate cake, as always I kind of use recipes as guides and add my own influences to finish off whatever it is I'm baking. - In this case....Minus the saltiness!
Although I have included the full recipe as shown in the book, I personally do not add any salt to the cake at all, so I skip the whole part on making the caramel and instead just use a basic ganache for the filling and topping.

The recipe:

For the sponge:
300g unsalted butter, softened
300g caster sugar
140g soft light brown sugar
3 eggs
100g cocoa powder
160ml buttermilk
1 tsp vanilla essence
330g (11½oz) plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
½ tsp salt
For the salty caramel:
200g caster sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
120ml double cream
60ml soured cream
1 tsp fine sea salt
For the frosting:
200g caster sugar
2 tbsp golden syrup
360 ml double cream
450g dark chocolate (minimum 70% cocoa solids), chopped, plus extra to decorate
450g unsalted butter, softened
Sea salt flakes, for sprinkling

The Method:

1. First make the salty caramel. In a small saucepan bring the sugar and golden syrup to the boil with 60ml (2fl oz) of water, allowing the mixture to boil for about 10 minutes, during which time it should become quite syrupy and a rich caramel colour.
2. Put the double cream, soured cream and salt in a separate pan and bring to the boil, then remove from the heat. The salt should completely dissolve in the cream.
3. When the sugar syrup is ready, remove it from the heat and carefully add the hot cream. It will bubble up as you pour in the cream, but smooth out again quickly after that, becoming a creamier golden colour. Pour the caramel into a small bowl and set it aside to cool while you make the frosting.
4. In a small, clean saucepan, bring the caster sugar and golden syrup to the boil with 60 millilitres of water, again letting this boil for approximately 10 minutes or until it is syrupy and caramel-coloured.
5. In a separate pan, bring the double cream to the boil. Carefully pour the hot cream into the caramel: as before, it will bubble up, but settle again shortly afterwards. Set this caramel aside to cool slightly.
6. Once it has cooled, add the chopped chocolate, stirring constantly while the chocolate melts. Using a hand-held electric whisk, mix the frosting for about 10 minutes or until the bottom of the bowl feels cool.
7. Add the butter to the chocolate caramel frosting and whisk together until the mixture is light and looks slightly whipped. Place the frosting in the fridge to cool and set for 40–50 minutes while you make the sponge.
8. Preheat the oven to 170°C/gas mark 3, and line the bases of the sandwich tins with baking parchment.
9. Using a freestanding electric mixer with the paddle attachment, or a hand-held electric whisk, cream together the butter and both types of sugars until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition and scraping down the sides of the bowl.
10. In a jug stir together the cocoa powder, buttermilk and vanilla essence with 60 millitres of water to form a thick paste. Sift together the remaining sponge ingredients, then add these in stages to the creamed butter and sugar, alternating with the cocoa powder paste and mixing thoroughly on a low-to-medium speed until all the ingredients are incorporated.
11. Divide the batter between the three prepared cake tins and bake for approximately 25 minutes or until the top of each sponge feels springy to the touch. Allow the sponges to cool slightly in their tins before turning out on to a wire rack and cooling completely before assembling.
12. Once the sponges feel cold to the touch, place one on a plate or cake card and top with approximately two tablespoons of the salty caramel, smoothing it over the sponge using a palette knife. Top the caramel layer with three to four tablespoons of the frosting and smooth it out as before.
13. Continue this process, sandwiching together the other two sponges with the remaining salty caramel and a layer of frosting and leaving enough frosting to cover the sides and top of the chocolate cake. To finish, decorate the top with chopped chocolate and a light sprinkling of the sea salt flakes.

And voila! Here we have the final product, just sprinkle a lil icing sugar and round the ganache using two spoons; I then used the edge of a table knife to create the ridged lines and curve for decoration!

DIY t shirts- iron on letters

I have seen this mean girls style t shirt everywhere lately on instagram, it just keeps popping up!

I love printed t shirts for the summer, so I thought I would attempt to make this myself! This was very simple, and very easy to do.

To make the printed t shirt, you will need the following;
T shirt,
Iron on lettering, (which can be purchased from ebay)
Scissors
An Iron

I originally wanted a plain t shirt, but I saw the vest in Primark for £2.50 and thought I may as well get that as I thought the black lettering would look good against the printed background, I also thought it was a pretty cute vest that would go with most things! And because the vest was so inexpensive it didn't really matter if it didn't work out.

So all you have to do is cut out the lettering, place it on the t shirt and then you just iron over it, you keep the iron over the letter for about 30 seconds, and then leave the lettering to cool down, after which you slowly peel of the backing, and then that it, it really is that simple. The iron on letters come with simple instructions also.

This was the finished product!

Collar'd!

I am in love with collar necklaces, and am slowly building up a collection! I don't really wear a lot of accessories, I'll wear the odd ring now and again, but lately I have really gotten into collar necklaces. They add a bit of glamour to any outfit without looking as though you are trying too hard!

I love every single one of these necklaces, and they really do go with everything, from simple t shirts, to wear under the collars of shirts, to dresses!

The necklaces above are from primark and forever 21, expect the first beaded one, which is my new love,  that one, I found online!

Maxed out!

I really wanted a maxi skirt this season, a high waisted one to be precise, because I feel as though high waisted ones are more flattering!

But I've been having trouble finding on that is the correct length on me, and I'm also really picky on colours, I either wanted a maroon one or an electric blue one, so not surprisingly, there wasn't a lot out there that met my high demands!

So my darling mother came to the rescue! My mum, like most asian mothers, is a pro with the sewing machine, so I went to Rochester market with her, early one morning (it really was early in the morning, we had to get there for 7!) and picked out the perfect colour for me. I ideally wanted a chiffon maxi skirt, but I would have then have had to have gotten some lining for the skirt too, so I instead chose a normal material. (I'm not sure what the material is called, I'll ask my mum and get back to you).

My mum made it in less than a day, I had bought a maxi skirt from primark that she could use as a template, and by the time I got back work in the evening, it was made!

The maxi skirt was perfect, exactly what I wanted, especially in length! And it even had pockets! And here is the finished product!

Obviously the picture has been edited using good old instagram, mainly because instagram just makes my outfits look that whole lot better! I am planning on teaming my maxi skirt with my leather jacket, because I am in love with my faux leather jacket, it's been one of my best buys, I wear it with everything! even asian suits! I would wear my maxi dress with printed t shirts and vests, tucked in, i might even see if i can wear it with my converse! I do need to get a slim belt for the skirt too!

I would probably team my maxi skirt up with something like this, a printed t shirt that I purchased from George at Asda. I don't really like buying things from there, mainly because people off all ages will buy the same thing from there, but this was so cute, like who doesn't love moustaches / facial hair right?! And it was under £10 which is just a bargain!

The maxi dress can also be dressed up, I wore it out on friday night with a black vest, my blazer and a collar necklace, and with it I wore some black suede wedges.

Ok so my scarf kind of hides the whole outfit, but it looked good, I promise! Aside from the mirror effect, this picture has not been edited, it just happened to be really good lighting!

Breakfast!

I like making breakfast, so I thought I'd share it with you guys! I've not had French Toast since last summer, me and my friends used to always go for breakfast at Cafe Rouge every Thursday after out Tort Lecture, and I would always get the French Toast, it was heaven!
I didn't realise that french toast was so simple to make, its literally just sugar, vanilla essence, milk and eggs and bread, I usually use brioche bread.

I've also recently gotten into pancakes, before I only used to have pancakes on the odd occasion when I would have 'breakfast' from McDonald's  and then one time a few years ago, on pancake day, me and my sister bought one of those pre prepared bottle mixtures, where all you add is milk, and I really wanted to make american pancakes, but it was a disaster, and they were not good, so my mum had to step in!

But a few weeks ago, I got a recipe from BBC good food, and voila!

These are my peanut butter pancakes, these are the second time I've made pancakes from scratch, the first time, I put chocolate chips in them, but they were rather sickly because I also had put sugar in the pancakes and then I had them with maple syrup, so they were not good! I wasn't such a fatty this time around, I just stuck with a little bit of sugar, and spread peanut butter on them!

I'm so proud of myself that I can make pancakes!

The pictures have been filtered with Instagram, cos I don't have a fancy camera, and I don't know how to Photoshop or anything, so yeah.
