Myself and the girls love H&M and we actually get so excited when we receive the magazine in the post! A few months ago when the latest magazine had come out, I saw this top, and immediately fell in love with it!
Lately I have seen the ombre trend everywhere, from hair to tshirts! I absolutely loved this t shirt and the colours used, so i thought I would attempt to make my own! Before I started I did a quick google search to see how easy it would be to dye clothes, and it really is so simple.
All you need is some dye, salt for the dye, hot water and a bucket!
I wasn't sure where in my small
In order to create the ombre effect on a t shirt, first you have to soak the t shirt in water and then wring it out, so the t shirt is kind of damp, otherwise the dye won't work effectively. Then all I did was heat some water up in a large bowl, enough to soak the t shirt in. Then I added the dye a little bit at a time.
So, as I wanted a light shade at the top and then gradually move down to a darker shade of blue, I first only put in a small quantity of dye, along with the salt. I then dipped most of the t shirt, but I only dipped it once and took it straight out so I only got a light colour onto the t shirt.
I then added some more dye to the bowl, and again dipped the t shirt in it, but I dipped in less, and this time as I had put in more dye, the colour was darker, I did this again, adding more dye so the bottom would be the darkest. As I dipped the tshirt in I kind of swished it up and down in order to achieve a gradient look.
I then hung it out to dry and this was the finished result.
I then got my darling mother to roll up the sleeves and sew them in place. I also had some studs left over from ages ago when I was into studding every bit of clothing I had, so I added some studs near the neckline.
This was the finished result, I pretty pleased with the t shirt, but it didn't turn out as dark as I had hoped it would, but I guess that was because I used a cotton t shirt? As you can see from the picture below, I would wear the t shirt with skinny light washed jeans and a pair of converse. As the t shirt is over sized, I guess you could also wear it with leggings.
